AFRICA’S SINGLE LARGEST ROOFTOP SOLAR PROJECT COMMISSIONED BY MINISTER

On 25th July 2024, Africa’s single largest rooftop solar project, designed and installed by Dutch & Co, was formally commissioned by the Minister of State at the Ministry of Energy, Honourable Herbert Krapa.

The project, which was completed on behalf of Dutch & Co’s client, the Helios Solar Company, a subsidiary of LMI Holdings is situated on the rooftop of the Mega Warehouse at the Tema Freezone Enclave and hopes to supply 16.82 megawatts of energy to Enclave Power Company, another subsidiary of LMI Holdings.

The project was part funded by a $30 million facility from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) given to LMI Holdings for the provision of clean power and water. Following a competitive tender process, Dutch & Co were selected to be the project’s PV-EPC and O&M contractor.

In just under a year, Dutch & Co procured and installed 29,262 n-type solar panels which are expected to generate 24,750 MWh of clean, stable, and sustainable electricity annually. This amount of power is equivalent to the annual consumption of 55,000 homes, demonstrating the plant’s capacity to produce a significant amount of electricity.

Remarking on the historic achievement, not just for Dutch & Co, but for Ghana also, Dutch & Co’s General Manager, Mr Herbert Friese said, “We are grateful to Helios Solar Company for their unwavering support and trust in our company as the PV-EPC and O&M contractor of this remarkable 16.82 MWp Helios Mega warehouse Rooftop Project, Africa’s largest single rooftop endeavor!

“This project underscores LMI Holdings’ deep commitment to Ghana’s industrialization growth. Private sector initiatives like the Helios Mega warehouse Rooftop Project are pivotal for Ghana’s economic growth. This project demonstrates how the private sector can bring effective solutions to development challenges and support job-creation, whilst reducing emissions and powering a brighter and cleaner future.

“I’m particularly grateful also to our installation partners, 3ESL, Safe Tech Engineering and Nowak Construction as well as our technology partners, Jinko Solar, Sungrow Solar and HIS.

“Our dedicated team of Ghanaian men and women, working tirelessly on-site, deserve immense appreciation. Their expertise, dedication and flexibility are instrumental in making this project a reality.”
